Casa Mar Fishing Costa Rica

Casa Mar Resort and Lodge is world famous for its Tarpon and Snook fishing. This all inclusive Tarpon and Snook fishing resort lodge has all that you need for a Costa Rica fishing trip of a lifetime.

Casa Mar Resort and Lodge is located on the northeast Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, in a remote rainforest setting which has the largest river and lagoon system of fishable waters on the east coast of Costa Rica.

The Casa Mar Resort and Lodge is homey and spacious and faces Laguna Agua Dulce, a freshwater lagoon where tarpon often can be seen rolling right in front of the dock.

Starting in January and running through May, tarpon in Costa Rica can be found in large numbers in the Rio Colorado; and anglers have been known to hook as many as 30 in one day. The average tarpon weighs approximately 85 lbs., but can reach upward of 130 lbs. Landing these tarpon will be the highlight of your fishing trip.

Tarpon can be found not only in fresh water but also in saltwater, and at these times affords the angler the opportunity to fish these giants in the sheltered rivers and lagoons. During calm weather throughout the year & especially during the months of August through October, tarpon can be found in vast numbers just outside the mouth of the river in the Caribbean Sea.

In December and January, snook, ranging in size from 3-12 lbs., invade the Rio Colorado. The fish are numerous and it is possible to catch dozens plus in a single day. If you are looking for really big snook, fishing in the surf during most of the year shouldn’t disappoint you.

Once you’ve had your fill of battling snook and tarpon, fishing guapote, known as rainbow bass, machaca, and mojarra is an exciting alternative. When fished on light tackle, these gamesters are extremely sporting opponents. After fishing in Costa Rica all day for Tarpon or Snook, you will stay at the Casa Mar Lodge where in the main section of the the lodge there are six duplex cabins which are on lush grounds thriving with varieties of fruit, native flowers and wild birds.

At Casa Mar there is well-equipped Tarpon and Snook tackle shop at one end of the lodge; dinner tables are at the other, and large screened windows offer a view of the jungle lagoon. Each cabin has twin beds with a private bathroom and shower. When the sea is calm, it is possible to venture outside the river mouth where tarpon bunch up or you can stay inshore and fish off the beach or fish on of inland rivers for snook.
